IMPHAL, Feb 8: The proscribed UNLF held its 9th general assembly from December 21 to 28 last year, according to a press release issued by the outfit’s Deputy Secretary of Publicity M Sak-hen.
After the first general assembly was held in 1984, the subsequent assemblies were held after every four years.
The 9th general assembly was chaired by the president of the advisory committee.
After thorough deliberation, the general assembly approved the 8th Central Committee’s report as well as the audit report, Sak-hen conveyed.
The general assembly unanimously resolved that cadres should point out any mistake or failure committed by the party to the relevant authority and work to rectify the same, and if they are unable to rectify the mistakes or failure, the matter should be raised to the higher authority without any delay.
The existing relationship between India and Manipur is a National contradiction which emerged after Manipur was allegedly annexed by India in 1949.
To the UNLF, this National contradiction is the most primary contradiction. The present characteristics of the alien rule seen in Manipur are determined by this contradiction. The case is similar to other communities of WESEA who too are living under the alien rule, the outfit asserted.
The 9th general assembly reaffirmed that the only way to resolve the National contradiction and free the people of Manipur from the yoke of the alien rule is through a successful National People’s Democratic Revolution, it alleged.
It was also unanimously agreed to replace the red star of the party’s symbol with a silver star.
The silver star was there in the UNLF’s symbol since 1984 until it was replaced by red star in 2010, it said.
It conveyed that the party’s letterhead which has red star would not be used any longer but it would be replaced by the one having silver star.
The 9th general assembly also elected a new Central Committee comprising of 13 members.
The 13 Central Committee Members are NC Koireng (Chairman), N Thabal (Vice Chairman), N Lancha (General Secretary), M Chaoba (COAS-MPA), O Chingkheinganbi, M Iboyaima, K Puyaning, Y Abo, S Tamphajao, Ksh Yoiheiba, TD Khuman Chiru, M Munan and M Sak-hen.
The newly elected Chairman and the Central Committee Members pledged that they would work with full dedication to implement the party’s policy, promote unity of the party, uphold the party’s secretary and never sell away the UNLF.
