IMPHAL, Feb 6 : The Janata Dal (United) has accused the Indian National Congress (INC) of barring its house campaign at Singjamei Wangma Torban Kshetri Leikai under Thongju Constituency, today.
Speaking to media persons, JD (U) candidate of Thongju AC Preshyojit Sanglakpam claimed that a group of Congress supporters forbade them (JD-U) from carrying out a house campaign at Singjamei Wangma Torban Kshetri Leikai under 5/24 and 5/25 polling stations today at around 10.30 am.
Claiming that the supporters of the Congress candidate used excessive words against them apart from stopping their vehicles, Preshyojit alleged that the group of people also claimed that the locality belongs to the Congress.
Saying that some elderly women in the area intervened and advised the Congress workers to let the JD (U) exercise its democratic rights too, the JD (U) candidate claimed that the group of men instead demanded that the campaign be carried out elsewhere.
"We returned without saying anything so as to avoid creating scenes," he added.
Maintaining that he himself played a part in strengthening the Congress at Thongju after joining the party in 2018, he contended that the present Congress candidate is a defector from BJP.
"I don't have any ill feeling against the Congress," he continued and added that undermining the fundamental rights of an individual, however, is unbecoming of a particular politician and his supporters.
He then demanded a clarification from the group who allegedly obstructed his campaign.
