IMPHAL, Feb 23 : Acting chairperson of Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) Khaidem Mani has appealed to all the victims of the recent pre-poll violence in Manipur to lodge a complaint so that the commission can take up corrective measures.
Speaking to the media at Lamphel Court complex today, K Mani continued that the State is witnessing an ugly phenomenon of frequent pre-poll violence among the supporters of rival political parties such as bomb, gun attacks etc.
Saying that the State police need to work efficiently to check pre-poll violence which has been growing at an alarming rate ahead of the Assembly election, the MHRC chairman said that the police should register an FIR and arrest whoever is found guilty.
He went on to state that the State police also need to examine whether any candidate is directly involved in hatching conspiracy to intimidate the supporters of other parties.
Appealing to all the victims of poll related violence to appear before the commission if the State police fail to register their complaints, K Mani added that the MHRC also can take up action against the erring police officers for violating human rights.
It is truly unfortunate that not a single victim of poll violence has filed a complaint to the commission, he added.
