Capacity building programme held

District Legal Services Authority, Tamenglong in collaboration with DLSA Imphal West and Chandel on Saturday organised an Online Capacity Building cum Interaction Programme on the topic, "Investigation of cases registered under POCSO Act and other crimes against women."
The programme sponsored by Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) was conducted under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), said a release issued by DLSA Tamenglong.
It was attended by all the Investigating Officers [IOs] including women IOs under the jurisdiction of Tamenglong, Noney, Imphal West, Chandel and Tengnoupal districts.
Md Arshad Saeed Shah, MJS, i/c secretary DLSA Imphal West delivered the welcome address while Lamkholal Kipgen, MJS, secretary DLSA Chandel proposed the vote of thanks.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Laishram Rina Devi, secretary DLSA Tamenglong stated that the programme was organized to re-sensitize all the IOs under the jurisdiction of Tamenglong, Noney, Imphal West Chandel and Tengnoupal with the following objectives namely, to make investigating agency an effective and efficient instrument for all criminal cases; to make investigation speedy and just; to bring faithful and fruitful result of the investigation; to provide the right of the accused to have fair investigation; to ensure transparency in the criminal justice system; to ensure special precautions as mandated by relevant provisions of law while investigating cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 and other crimes against  women.
Aribam Guneshwar Sharma, MJS, District & Sessions Judge, Imphal West cum Chairman, DLSA Tamenglong, Imphal West and Chandel spoke on the salient features of the POCSO Act including offences under the Act ie. Sexual Harassment (not touching body), Sexual Assault (touching body), Penetrative Sexual Assault, Pornography, Non-Reporting & False Complaint; Reporting of cases; Duties of Police; Recording of Statements, compensation etc.
Moreover, DLSA Chandel under the aegis of MASLSA also organized a One Day Legal Awareness Programme on the topic, "Banning of Unregulated Deposit Scheme Act 2019" as a part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav at Khadungyon Japhou Bazar, Chandel District on February 16.
Resource person, Kh Jacky Lucy, Retainer Lawyer, DLSA Chandel highlighted the various Unregulated Deposit Schemes in the State and common cons of such schemes and its post effects.
