THOUBAL, Feb 17: Residents of Charangpat Maning Leikai staged a sit-in-protest today against the wrongful arrest of a stone crusher operator from Kumbi, Khangembam Robindro (50) and his wife Ciliya on charges of alleged drug possession by Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB).
It may be noted that the two were subsequently released today upon finding that the 'suspicious item' was not heroin No 4.
It is also worth mentioning that the stone crusher is owned by the family of Kharibam Jiban, a candidate from Wangkhem AC for the ensuing 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, Kh Jiban spoke against the attempt to besmirch innocent people's reputation through unsavoury means. He also shared that recently some individuals had pointed a gun at him and threatened him. And today the operator of the stone crusher that his family owns had been targeted.
He further called it unfortunate that somebody had planted a suspicious item, tipped off NAB and tried to ruin the reputation of Kh Robindro and his wife. As such, he urged the authorities concerned to look into the matter and apprehend the perpetrators responsible for this incident.
