JCILPS urges

IMPHAL, Feb 14 : The Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has appealed to every Bengali residing in Manipur  to stand firmly against the petition filed at the Supreme Court which challenges the implementation of Inner Line Permit System in Manipur.
Speaking to media persons at Sega Road Konjeng Hazari Leikai today, JCILPS convenor in charge Luwangcha Chingkhei said that the petition filed by Amar Bangali, an organisation based in Kolkata, is unlikely to be withdrawn for now.
"They (the Bengalis in Manipur) must show their opposition to the petition and contribute in quashing the case," he added.
Chingkhei further stated that ILPS implemented in Manipur is a hollow system.
Claiming that a large number of non locals especially Bengali Muslims are entering Manipur from Jiribam side alone daily, he alleged that   there are 7,000 Meiteis, 6,000 Bengali Hindus, 7,300 Bengali Muslims, 1,053 Meitei Pangals electors in Jiribam as per a past record.
Bengali Muslims don't enter from the Dimapur side normally, he continued.
Saying that a collective effort is needed to save the indigenous people of Manipur from external threats, he added encouraging work  culture is one effective way which can discourage the entry of non locals.
