IMPHAL, Feb 14: BJP Government has been claiming that peace has been brought in the State with the coming of BJP Government and at the same time has taken a steadfast stand against withdrawal of AFSPA-1958.
NPP Manipur Unit working president and Keishamthong AC MLA L Jayantakumar said this while attending the flag hoisting ceremony of NPP candidate in Singjamei AC Oinam Romen today at his residence in Singjamei Oinam Thingel and added that the BJP leaders should clarify whether there is a hidden agenda behind this.
L Jayantakumar added that the Government should consider repealing AFSPA from the State to corroborate their claim of peace in the State.
The attendance of women in large number at the flag hoisting ceremony means O Romen will surely win the election, he added. Speaking at the programme, O Romen appealed all other candidates to engage in a free and fair election and not use money and muscle power to intimidate voters to cast their vote against their will.
Adding that voting is the private decision of voters, O Romen said it is the will of the people that will elect the next representative from Singjamei AC. He also exuded confidence that he will surely win the election with the support of the people.
Reiterating the work he had done for the welfare of the people during the last seven years, O Romen said there is no other candidate who will open their door to everyone when elected and appealed the people of Singjamei AC not to trust candidates who are unavailable to listen to public grievances after being elected as a representative of the people.
O Romen also hit out at the current elected members who have failed to take up any schemes meant for the welfare of the youth and the women section of the society. The programme was also attended by Koijam Harimohon Singh, NPP Singjamei block president; Sheikh Noorul Hassan, NPP candidate Kshetrigao AC and NPP spokesperson Ningombam Ibohal Meitei amongst others.
