Manipur claim 15 medals in Zonal and National Sub-Jr Karate C'ships

IMPHAL, Dec 4 : Manipur claimed 15 medals in the All India Inter Zonal and Sub-Junior National Karate Championship held at Talkatora Indoor Stadium, New Delhi from December 2 to 14.
In the interzonal event, Laishram Yaiphaba of Malom Awang Leikai (U-21, Kata), Thongam Suraj of SAI-STC (Senior -60 kg, kumite) and Ch Priyanka of Andro (cadet female -47 kg, kumite) won gold medals as Khangembam Roshini Chanu of Saiton (sr women; -55 kg kumite) and Km Sofiya of Yairipok Tulihal (sr women, -45 kg kumite) won silver medals.
Konjengbam Dorita of Yairipok Top (junior girls kata) and Md Muktar of Yairipok Changngamdabi (junior men's -68 kg kumite) on the other hand won bronze medals.
Meanwhile in the sub-junior karate championship, Washim Akram of Lilong won a gold medal in the 10 years -35 kg kumite and bronze medal in Kata event.
Atom Swami of Patsoi Part I (11 yrs Kata), Kh Javed of Changngamdabi  Mathak (13 yrs -45 kg, kumite) won silver medals as Soram Lanngambi of Sega Road Takhellambam Leikai won silver and a bronze medals in the 7 years -25 kg kumite and kata events respectively. Kh Alec Singh of Yairipok Keisham (7 years, -25 kg kumite) and Md Suhel of Yairipok Ningthounai (13 yrars -45 kg kumite) won bronze medals in the same championship.
The teams were led by Sensei Md Amir Khan of Yairipok Ningthounai; Sensei Soram Chinglen of Takhellambam Leikai and Md Sirajur of Lilong as coaches and Thiyam Thoungamba of Kumbi as assistant coach.
