Poet from Manipur wins Sahitya Akademi Award
IMPHAL, Dec 23 : Koijam Shantibala has won the Sahitya Akademi Award 2022 for her poetry book Leironnung.
An Assistant Professor at Manipur University, Shantibala has written a number of books, including collections of poems and one drama.
Sahitya Akademi announced its annual Sahitya Akademi Awards in 23 languages on Thursday.
A press release issued by Sahitya Akademi said that the awards were given based on the recommendations made by a jury of three members in the languages concerned.
The award which includes Rs 1,00,000, copper-plaque and shawl will be presented to the awardees on a later date, it added. She is also a member of several literary organisations including Literary Association-Leikol, Sahitya Parishad, Cultural Forum, MLS Naharol Sahitya Premi Samittee, Sea-Waves, AMMIK, SEIPAL, and SHAL.
She is also a dramatist and bagged the Best Actress Award for her role in a drama.
She was also honoured with Dr Khoirom Tomchou Ningsing Gold Medal 2006 on the book Amuba Meetkhumphee awarded by Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Bishnupur, Manipur. She also received the Moirangthem Ningthou Ningshing Mana 201I (Art and Culture) awarded by the Union of Social Upliftment, Khurai, Imphal.
