Tml comes alive to Orange Festival

The 17th edition of the State level Orange Festival began at Lower Ground, Tameng-long District Headquarters under the theme ‘Tameng-long Orange Overcomes Boundaries’ today.
The festival will culminate on December 19.
The opening ceremony was held in the attendance of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Minister Kha-shim Vashum; Water Resources Minister Awang-bow Newmai, MLAs Kumo Sha, Thongam Shanti and Janghemlung Panmei.
At the event,  Khashim Vashum thanked the district administrations of Tameng-long and Noney for organising the Orange Festival in a grand manner.
While thanking Chief Minister N Biren Singh for declaring Orange Festival as a State level festival, the Minister said that the Government is planning to organise the festival in an orange farm from next year onward to promote the orange of Tamenglong furthermore.
He appealed to the artists of Manipur to promote the festival as they have a large number of followers.
Functional president Awangbow Newmai said that the Government will put in maximum efforts to address the inconvenience and difficulties being faced by the orange growers.
Tamenglong AC MLA Janghemlung Panmei was the chief host of the event.
In his speech, the MLA conveyed gratitude to the orange farmers. "We are able to celebrate this festival because of them (the orange growers)," he said.
Continuing that Tameng-long is known for its oranges throughout the world,  he  appealed to the people of the districts to welcome all the guests and tourists with kindness.
Altogether 270 farmers are taking part in the orange competition while the samples they produce will be tested and examined by the experts from CAU and ICAR.
The top three winners of the competition will be given cash prizes of Rs 2,00,000,  Rs 1,50,000 and Rs 1,00,000 respectively.
Other highlights of the festival include Orange Queen Contest, musical concert, Tamenglong Got Talent, seminar for orange growers, camping and adventure programmes which will be held at different spots.
Popular actress N Biju also attended the programme and her presence enthralled the crowd.
