MOIRANG, Dec 16 : MLA T Robindro too has endorsed the demand for enlistment of Meitei/Meetei in the Scheduled Tribe category under the Constitution of India.
Continuing with their ongoing campaign to meet legislators and exert pressure on them so that the State Government sends the requisite recommendation to the Centre for inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in the ST list, a team of the Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee, Manipur (STDCM) called on Thanga AC MLA T Robindro at his Keirenphabi residence.
After accepting a memorandum submitted by the STDCM, T Robindro assured full support from his side towards enlistment of Meitei/Meetei in the ST category.
By virtue being the aborigines of the land, the demand for granting ST status to the Meitei/Meetei community under the Constitution of India is quite legitimate, the MLA asserted.
If one looks back at the history, Meitei/Meetei is also a kind of tribe, he asserted.
Claiming that whatever gap that existed between the hill people and plain has been bridged since the N Biren-led Government was installed, T Robindro said that hill people and plain people are now living in harmony with a strong sense of brotherhood despite following different religions. Saying that Chief Minister N Biren is always dedicated to the issues of the masses, T Robindro exuded confidence that the Chief Minister would take up necessary steps to fulfil the demand of enlisting Meitei/Meetei in the ST category. He also hailed the STDCM for carrying on their campaign peacefully without indulging in any confrontation or conflict. Assuring unstinted support from his side, the Thanga AC MLA expressed hope that the Centre would   fulfil the demand. The team who called on the MLA today included STDCM working president L Lokendra, general secretary K Bhogendrajit, convenor W Anand and representatives of other CSOs.
