IMPHAL, Nov 8: The State Government is very much interested in enlisting  Meitei/Meetei in the ST category and it is only  waiting for the right time, said RD&PR Minister Yumnam Khemchand.
Supported by several other organisations, volunteers of Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee Manipur (STDCM) went to the Yumnam Leikai residence of Yumnam Khemchand today and submitted a memorandum.
Accepting the STDCM’s memorandum, Khemchand said that he personally supports the demand for inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in the ST list of the Indian Constitution.
Starting from the Chief Minister, all the Ministers and MLAs of the State Government are very much interested in the demand. It is a matter of waiting for sometime, he said.
Appreciating how the RD&PR Minister accepted their memorandum with enthusiasm, STDCM Women Wing convenor RK Tharak-sana exuded confidence that their movement would certainly achieve its objective. She also urged all the legislators to invest their best efforts towards enlistment of Meitei/Meetei in the ST category.
