IMPHAL, Nov 9 : Seizure of drugs continues unabated in Manipur as a team of NAB, Manipur officials arrested two drug peddlers along with 1.015 kilogram of brown sugar from Yairipok Khoirom, yesterday.
The two persons have been identified as Thangneo Vaiphei (35), s/o Ginlian Vaiphei of Khumunnom Village (Horton Vaiphei Village), Kangpokpi and Lenpu Vaiphei (35), s/o Mangneo Suantak of Nongamaijing Tampak (Haokhong Village) from Yairipok Khoirom, Thoubal. According to well placed sources, the NAB team under the supervision of its SP K Meghachandra carried out a frisking and checking drive at Yairipok Khoirom area on receiving inputs about the presence of some drug peddlers there.
During the drive, Thangneo Vaiphei and Lenpu Vaiphei were arrested along with 1.015 kilograms of brown sugar, an unregistered Kenbo bike and two mobile phones. A case has been registered against them at NAB Manipur police station under different Sections of ND&PS Act. They have been sent to police custody till November 15.
Assam Rifles also arrested a 27-year-old man along Imphal-Moreh road and seized drugs worth over Rs 3.5 crore yesterday.
The 27-year-old has been identified as Kaichungnung from Churachandpur. He was driving an Eeco Van towards Imphal from Moreh when he was stopped by a mobile vehicle checkpost of the 5 Assam Rifles at around 12.30 pm yesterday. On checking the vehicle, the AR personnel found 43 soap cases containing brown sugar and 40 packets of WY tablets. The brown sugar with the soap cases weigh about 1.77 kilograms and is worth around Rs 3.55 crore in the international market. The WY tablets weigh about 815 grams and are worth Rs 40 lakh, said sources.
The arrested person along with the seized items have been handed over to Moreh police station for further investigation and legal actions.
