IMPHAL, Nov 9: A walkathon which marked the launching of the Special Summary Revision (SSR), 2023 was held today along the National Highway 102 (Imphal-Moreh Road) stretch between Canchipur and Kakwa Bazar.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Manipur Rajesh Agrawal officially flagged off the walkathon from the Manipur University (MU) Main Gate at around 10.30 am. Over hundred students of MU took part in the event by wearing T-shirts and caps printed with words and slogans related to electoral rolls and voting rights.
Speaking on the sideline of the event, Rajesh Agrawal informed that the SSR, 2023 will be carried out from November 9 to December 8, 2022 with January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1 of the year 2023 as the qualifying dates for registration.
He said that the Election Commission of India has taken up new initiatives, which includes the acceptance of advance application for the registration on electoral roll by the youths whose ages are 17 and above.
“One can apply for any of the qualifying dates for the SSR period. However, the names of the applicants who applied in advance will be enrolled only when he/she completes 18 years”, the CEO added.
Saying that the majority of the students in the varsity may probably be the targeted population for registering in the voter lists, he exuded confidence that the walkathon will go a long way in generating awareness about the SSR among the youths.
The CEO went on to inform that more events for creating awareness will be held in different parts of the State.
