TA & Hills Minister, Letpao Haokip has asserted that as a medium of education, Shumang Leelas contribute significantly in steering society towards the right path.
The Minister was speaking as the chief guest at the foundation day cum silver jubilee celebration of Sanaleipak Nachom Artistes held at Sanamahi Temple Board, Haying Khongbal today.
Letpao Haokip also highlighted the importance of a talented writer in producing good 'Shumang Leelas'. In this regard, he opined that it is high time for intellectuals and notable scholars of the State to try their hand in writing Shumang Leela in order to influence the society to be better.
Other dignitaries who attended the function include Professor P Gunindro, Vice-Chancellor, Manipur University of Culture; M Purnimashi Leima, president, Manipur State Shumang Leela Council; Ph Gunachandra Sharma, lifetime president, MSSLC; L Tompishak Singh, Chairman, Administrative Board, Manipur State Cooperative Union; L Tarpon Singh, advisor, MSSLC; Namoijam Tomba, member, Sanamahi Temple Board and Kshetri Jugindro, Chairman, Award Committee, MSSLC among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Sougrakpam Hemanta, founder secretary, Sanaleipak Nachom Artistes expressed his gratitude towards the public for their support at the silver jubilee celebration of Sanaleipak Nachom Artistes.
As a part of the day's function, senior artistes of Sanaleipak Nachom Artistes and other renowned Shumang Leela artistes were honoured with simple gifts.
Aside from this, Sanaleipak Nachom Artistes also presented 'Wakhal Eronba', a Shumang Leela penned by Ranjit Ningthouja under the guidance of Sougrakpam Hemanta. It may be noted that 'Wakhal Eronba' also bagged the first prize at the State Shumang Leela Festival organised by Manipur State Kala Akademi.
