Workshop on "Conservation and wise use of Loktak & associated lakes" held

BISHNUPUR, Oct 8 : To commemorate Loktak Day, Loktak Development Authority (LDA) in association with Mangolnganbi College Ningthoukhong organised a 1-day workshop on "Conservation and wise use of Loktak & associated lakes" at the college's Auditorium today.
It was attended by Power, Forest, Environment & Climate Change Minister, Th Biswajit Singh; Works & YAS Minister, Govindas Konthoujam; LDA Chairman, M Asnikumar Singh; DC Bishnupur, L Bikram Singh; LDA Project Director, L Bhagaton Singh and K Jugeshore Singh, retired Principal Kumbi College as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Govindas Konthoujam stated that Loktak & associated lakes of the State can be saved only through discussion and not by organising music or dance festivals.
Highlighting the importance of Loktak Lake, the Minister urged all to not pollute and provide their support in preserving/protecting the Lake.
Govindas Konthoujam also announced the plan to upgrade the Regional Water Sports Complex located at Loktak Lake through SAI.
In the second session, group discussion was conducted on the topics, "Identifying threats & evolving management strategies", "Culture, traditions & regulatory regime", "Water regime conservation", "Biodiversity", "Catchment conservation", and "Participatory management & community livelihood".
Representatives from Environment Directorate, Planning Department, Sanoi College, SK Women's College, Thambal Marik College, CI College, Moirang College, Kumbi College, Mayai Lambi College, Prabhabati College, Pole Star College, Kha Manipur College, Kakching Khunou College, Manipur University and local community also took part in the workshop.
