Curtain Raiser of Manipuri Poetry Day-2022 at St Joseph University, Nagaland

The Department of English, St. Joseph University, Nagaland organised 'Curtain Raiser of Manipuri Poetry Day-2022' today at the Seminar Hall of the varsity.
The event was participated by Dr Thokchom Sunanda Devi, Head of the Department of English; Professor Dr Selvin Vedamanickam and the students of the Department, said a press release by the Department
During the programme, the participants read out poems on various themes including the beauty of Manipur, nature, peace etc.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Thokchom Sunanda Devi stated that Manipuri Poetry Day is being observed in honour of the life and works of notable poets of Manipuri literature and to pay homage to the rich and unique literary tradition of the Manipuri language.
It is worth mentioning that the Department of English, St Joseph University, Nagaland has been organising Manipuri Poetry Day every year since 2019.
Meanwhile, the Fiction and Poetry Club, Manipur in association with Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA) will be observing Manipur Poetry Day 2022 on October 9, 2022 (Sunday) at JNMDA auditorium.
The observation will be held in three different sessions attended by eminent personalities, writers and poets of the State, said a press note by the Club.
During the observation, tributes will be paid to the departed  renowned poets of Manipuri literature.
A poetry recitation competition will also be held for the students from Class VIII till University level.
