IMPHAL, Oct 25 : To come to a meeting point over the designation of the ethnic group native to the State as both Meetei and Meitei, Rajya Sabha MP cum titular king of Manipur Leisemba Sanajaoba has called on all stakeholders concerned to work out a solution so as to specify a single name for the ethnic group.
He made the remark at the inaugural ceremony of a 15 day workshop on Rite-de-Passage of Sanamahism at Haying Khongbal inside 1st MR complex, today.
The workshop is being organised by Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board and Manipur University of Culture.
At the event, Leisemba Sanajaoba continued that there must be unity among the Meitei/Meetei populace to ensure peaceful coexistence among all communities settling in the State.
Saying that it is not only Meitei/Meetei which follow Sanamahi faith, he maintained that no outside force can overwhelm the place as long as there is unity among the Meitei/Meetei people.
About 130 delegates from different districts are taking part in the workshop.
The MP also exuded confidence that the workshop will play a vital role in promoting Sanamahi faith.
CAF & PD Minister L Susindro Meitei also attended the programme.
The Minister said that the responsibility of saving Manipur lies only with the indigenous people of the State.
He also hailed Chief Minister N Biren Singh as a visionary leader who has faith in the idea of secularism.
Assuring that he will extend all possible assistance in promoting Sanamahi faith and everyone is welcome to join the religion, he continued that Sanamahi faith has found a number of believers these days.
PDA Chairman cum vice president of Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board MLA L Rameshwor Meetei and Vice Chancellor of Manipur University of Culture Prof Paonam Gunindro were also present.
