THOUBAL, Oct 13 : Students of Slopeland Public School along with their guardians staged a sit-in protest today at the school gate appealing to the proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) to lift the ban imposed on the school.
An unnamed class XII student of the school which is located at Khongjom Salt Village in Thoubal district shared that being a residential school, Slopeland Public School has students from outside the State, namely, Tripura, Myanmar etc and this ban is causing a lot of distress to the students.
A student from Tripura also reportedly reiterated their appeal to reverse the ban imposed on the functioning of the school.
Speaking on behalf of the guardians, Mutum Nirmala lamented the ban, stating that around 140 impoverished students from roughly ten of the surrounding villages receive education from nursery to class XII as well as eatable items free of cost at Slopeland Public School.
"The ban imposed on the school from the academic session of 2023 has burdened the parents of these poor students. Aside from this, 9 students from Tripura are also currently receiving free education at this school", she added.
In view of these circumstances, she earnestly appealed  for a roll back of the ban.
It may be noted that teachers of the school also participated in the sit-in protest.
The protestors displayed many banners and placards expressing their dissent against the ban.
