IMPHAL, Sep 30 : Lamyanba Irabot Ningshing Thouram Observation Committee (LINTOC) observed the126th birth anniversary of Hijam Irabot under the theme "Mannaba Khunai Amagidamak Lamyanba Irabot" at Shri Shri Bal Mukunda Dev Music College, Palace Compound, today.
The observance organised under the aegis of Protection and Preservation Committee Manipur (PPCM) was graced by PPCM convenor Maibam Bishesor, LINTOC convenor Konthoujam Thoiba Meetei, LINTOC co-convenor Kh Gopen Luwang, Shri Shri Bal Mukunda Dev Music College Lecturer (violin) Leitanthem Nobin Singh, Guest Faculty of Department of Earth Science, Manipur University Dr Sanasam Subhamenon and International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA) advisor H Ibotombi Khuman as presidium members.
During the observance, floral tributes were offered to the life size photograph of Hijam Irabot.
Speaking at the event, Thoiba Meetei said that the people of Manipur have been observing the birth and death anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot since the past.
He said that LINTOC also organised a discourse on "Phurupsingee Mari Amasung Manipurgi Tunglamchat" as a part of the month-long observance of the 126th birth anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot earlier.
Saying that people remember Hijam Irabot till today with utmost reverence for he fought against British colonialism and evils of the society, he added that the Lamyanba died after going underground on September 26, 1951 at Burma (now Myanmar).
Stating that Hijam Irabot dreamt of making Manipur an inclusive and independent entity, he added that the Manipur which "we are seeing today" is not what was envisioned by the Lamyanba.
