The 37th annual function of Manipur Hawkers' Association was conducted today at Tomchou Hr Sec School, Mayang Imphal Thana Awang Leikai (near Radio Station).
As per a statement from Manipur Hawkers' Association, the event was attended by Deputy Speaker Kongkham Robindro Singh, Wangkhem Ajit Singh and Konsam Ibotomba as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
As a part of the function, prizes were distributed to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd position holders of the State Level Painting Competition organised by MHA on January 1, 2022 and the Deputy Speaker distributed CMHT cards to the members of the Association, the statement added.
Giving the keynote speech, general secretary L Surjit Singh expressed appreciation towards the hawkers of the State for diligently carrying on their work in the face of adversities posed by the pandemic. He further rued the lack of a permanent office for the Association and recalled Chief Minister N Biren Singh's assurance to provide them with one in Greater Imphal area. He also appealed to the Deputy Speaker regarding this matter and stressed on a pension scheme for hawkers as well.
Further he expressed his gratitude to the Government for the distribution of CMHT cards.
Deputy Speaker Kongkham Robindro Singh, in his address to the gathering assured to provide aid to the hawkers of the State for their priceless contribution.
