Demand to repeal AFSPA from Manipur
IMPHAL, Jan 10
The demand to repeal Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), 1958 from Manipur was raised during the 16th National Conference of All India Youth Federation (AIYF) held at Hyderabad.
As per a press release from All India Youth Federation, Manipur State Council, the issue was raised by Moirangthem Somorjit Singh, president of AIYF, Manipur State Council on the third day of the conference and it was resolved to make concerted efforts at the national level for the cause.
It may be noted that under the shadow of the ruthless AFSPA, many innocent lives have been lost, modesty of numerous women have been outraged and the State has been left in a regressive manner.
During the conference, the national draft reports were analyzed and the problem of unemployment owing to the privatization of Government bodies leading to the deplorable state of the economy were also discussed at length.
With an aim to tackle such problems, the youths body also resolved to strive for a socialist economy and egalitarian society.
The national conference was attended by around 1,000 (one thousand) delegates from 20 states of the country and the delegates pledged to formulate policies to bring in a healthy change in the country, added the press release.
