World Heart Day observed

IMPHAL, Sep 29 : National Programme for Prevention and Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke, National Health Mission, Manipur observed World Heart Day under the theme "Use heart to connect every heart" at Sangai Hotel, Nagamapal, today.
On the occasion, Health Director Dr K Rajo said that abstaining from bad food, living joyously and going for check-ups regularly are the keys for a healthy heart which is one of the hardest working organs.
Saying that the world's biggest killer is heart disease which is non communicable, Dr Rajo added that about 17 million people die due to heart ailments per day globally.
He urged the people to go for heart check-ups at least once a year or every six month.
Continuing that high blood pressure and diabetes are common in Manipur, Dr Rajo said that 26 percent of women in the 15-45 age group and 37 percent of men in the same age group have high blood pressure as per a report National Family Health Survey.
As per ICMR and World Health Organisation, 60 percent of the Indian people are susceptible to non communicable disease especially that of the heart.
Manipur Heart Foundation president Dr L Shyamkishore shared the dais with Dr Rajo and Dr N Shyamjai.
