A sit-in-protest was staged today by Joint Platform of Scheme Workers, Manipur at Irawat Bhawan Complex in solidarity with the one-day Nationwide strike observed by scheme workers across India today. Notable personalities who were present at the sit-in protest included L Sotinkumar, general secretary AITUC, Kshetrimayum Santa, secretary CITU, K Manoranjan, state secretary TUCC, Y Indrani Devi, president Manipur Mid-day Meal Workers Union, Th Purnimashi, president All Manipur ASHA Workers Union and various anganwadi workers, helpers, ASHA workers, mid-day meal workers etc and their representatives.
Speaking to the gathering, L Sotinkumar stated that the honorarium, remuneration and incentives given by the State Government is for namesake only in comparison to the kind of invaluable service these scheme workers provide.
Ksh Santa expressed disappointment with the fact that while other States have at least increased the honorariums and incentives provided to scheme workers, the Government of Manipur is yet to take up any measures on that front. K Manoranjan and Y Indrani expressed similar sentiments and reiterated their demands.
It is worth mentioning that similar sit-in-protests were staged at Kakching, Jiribam and Bishnupur among other places.
