IMPHAL, Sep 21: The Manipur Democratic Alliance (MDA) has submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister to restore the State’s territory which was there when Manipur was merged into the Indian Union.
Speaking to media persons at the Babupara office of Shiv Sena here today, MDA convenor M Tombi said that he led an MDA team to Delhi recently and submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister.
The memorandum urged the Government of India to re-survey the Indo (Manipur)-Myanmar boundary and restore the original territory of Manipur which was there when the State was merged into the Indian Union.
Teams of the Survey of India surveyed the Manipur-Myanmar international boundary in 1997 and 2015 but the starting point was not known. It is also not known how many subsidiary pillars should be there between two border pillars, Tombi said.
Because of erecting BP 81 deep inside the territory of Manipur, there is a possibility of the State losing 3000 sq Kms of border area from Churahandpur to Ukhrul, he said.
There is an urgent need to re-survey the international boundary and this was highlighted to the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister through the memorandum, he continued.
Conveying Union MoS External Affairs Dr RK Ranjan’s assurance that a team of the Survey of India would soon examine the Indo-Myanmar boundary, the MDA convenor appealed to all concerned to halt the boundary fencing work.
