Student unions decry

IMPHAL, Sep 15: Student unions of 5 colleges have expressed strong exception to the Directorate of University and Higher Education's  indifferent attitude towards their appeal to reduce the newly prescribed fee for admission to BA/BSc 1st semester courses in the wake of Covid pandemic.
A joint statement signed by general secretaries of students unions of five colleges namely Manipur College, MB College, Kha Manipur College, Ideal College and Kakching Khunou College, condemned the directorate for turning a deaf ear to the appeal of student unions of 12 colleges under Manipur University to reduce the exorbitant fee hike and subsequent restriction on admission processes at the said colleges.
If the directorate concerned fails to pay heed to their appeal, the student unions will join hands with other student unions and take up forms of agitation, it added.
General secretary of Imphal College Students' Union, in a separate release also warned of a more intense form of agitation if the Education Department does not exempt the amount mentioned in excess to the fee of the previous academic year till September 16.
