33rd anniversary of 8888 Uprising observed

The 33rd anniversary of the 1988 Burma Uprising popularly known as 8888 Uprising was observed at Irabot Bhavan at BT Road today organised by Solidarity Committee for Burma Democracy, Manipur.
In today's event, L Sotinkumar, chairman of Solidarity Committee for Burma Democracy, Manipur condemned the military junta of Burma and stated that the committee will extend best possible help to help in restoring democracy in Myanmar, said a press release by the committee.
Convenor of the committee, Kshetrimayum Santa appealed to ASEAN countries, United Nations Security Council and especially India to help in the restoration of democracy in the Myanmar and to intervene on humanitarian grounds and to impose a Global Arms Embargo over the Ruling Junta.
Secretariat member of CPI (M) Manipur, Sarat Salam, leaders of CPI Manipur, Haobam Roben and secretary of CPI Imphal West, Thiyam Megha also attended the programme.
It may be mentioned that the 8888 Uprising was a series of protests initiated by the university students of Myanmar demanding to put an end to Military rule and to restore democracy.
