IMPHAL, Aug 5 : The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has urged the Central Government to intervene in the Assam-Mizoram border dispute and take necessary arrangements to lift the economic blockade against Mizoram.
A press release issued by AMSU said that the border dispute between Assam and Mizoram is another example of the Union Government's negligence in solving the various border disputes among the North East States of India for a long time.
"The boundary issue can only be resolved only through political dialogue, not by imposing force," AMSU asserted.
Claiming that groups of people in Assam are still blocking every route to Mizoram, the statement continued that such an 'inhuman act' will escalate the tension between the two States. AMSU then urged the Government to call on both the States to solve the border issue and to lift the economic blockade imposed against Mizoram.
The students' union also appealed to all the people living in the border areas to avoid using violence and expressed its condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the border issue.
