IMPHAL, Aug 29
Fit India Campaign Committee (FICC) and Fit India Club (FIC),  Manipur University has organised the “Observance of National Sports Day 2021 and Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav – Cycle Rally 2021” today at the Traffic Point, MU in pursuance of Ministry of Education, Department of Higher Education, Govt of India, New Delhi.
Prof N Lokendra Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Manipur University, Prof Dr Sanjib Singh Nepram, Bicycle Mayor and HoD, Plastic Surgery, RIMS, Dr L Bishwanath Sharma, Chairman, Fit India Club and Dean, Students’ Welfare, Manipur University and Prof K Yugindro Singh, Chairman, Fit India Campaign Committee and Dean, School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, Manipur University, graced the occasion as the presidium members, said a press release issued by FICC and FIC.
A total of 250 cyclists of the State participated in the cycle rally including ‘Doctors on Padel’ and a team of cyclists from ‘Manipur Adventure and Mountain Biking Association (MAAMBA)’ under the leadership of Prof Dr Sanjib Singh Nepram, Bicycle Mayor and HoD of Plastic Surgery, RIMS.
The cycle rally was flagged off by the VC from the Manipur University Gate which was destined for Maibam Lotpa Ching, Imphal Peace Museum at Nambol.
Dr Laishram Santosh Singh, convenor of FICC and FIC ,highlighted the theme and importance of observing National Sports Day and Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav, Cycle rally 2021.
Dr L Bishwanath Sharma delivered the key note address and expressed that observation of National Sports Day will certainly enhance the spirit of sportsmanship in the country and the role of sportsmen in daily life in today's world.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof N Lokendra Singh expressed the importance of keeping fit both the body and mind in one's life. He also emphasised that in order to save the loss of time in visiting hospitals and health expenditures incurred, one should invest in the fitness of body and mind.
Further, he expressed that regular physical activity can help protect from serious diseases such as obesity, heart disease, cancer, mental illness, diabetes and arthritis. Riding the bicycle regularly is one of the best ways to reduce the risk of health problems associated with a sedentary lifestyle, he added.
