SMSU hails proposed Manipur House at Red Land

IMPHAL, Aug 26 : The Shillong Manipuri Students’ Union has expressed gratitude to the State Government's decision to construct Manipur House at Red Land in Laitumkhrah, Shillong as announced by the Chief Minister on August 13 this year.
The Chief Minister in his announcement circulated widely on social media, said that the ownership of Manipur House, Red Land (Rajbari) has been restored back to the Government of Manipur and a new Bhavan will be constructed at the same location.
The student union in a press release said that it has been a long standing demand for the union and Shillong based Manipuri community and expressed belief that the construction process of the House will start soon.
The union further reminded the State Government that the Manipur Bhavan/House in Shillong must convey historical sanctity and official dignity of people of Manipur.
The main building has a lot of historical significance and thus it should be preserved, urged the union and added that the building may house a 'MUSEUM' to disseminate the historical facts and events.
The officials presently accommodated in the main building and tenants occupying the peripheral structure must be immediately vacated to an appropriate location to restore the sanctity and solemnity of the structure, the union demanded.
The union also urged the State Government to construct a 'Community Hall' with an auditorium inside the compound for the benefit of people of Manipur along with an office room of Shillong Manipuri Students Union.
Two separate hostels for boys and girls in the interest of the students of Manipur, studying in Shillong also must be constructed, the union continued.
Certain roles and responsibilities and the tenure of service of the employee (s) must be provided and the same must be exhibited in public domain & monitored by Government of Manipur for proper functioning and maintenance of the House, it added.
