IMPHAL, Aug 19
On the occasion of 30th Manipuri Language Day, Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) paid homage to all the leaders, renowned teachers and writers and various organisations who have relentlessly fought for the recognition of the Manipuri language.
In a press release issued in this regard by Nameirakpam Edison Meitei, president of DESAM said that Manipuri language was included in the 8th Schedule of Indian Constitution due to the concerted efforts of the Manipuri language lovers.
Stating that one's language helps in the identification of the particular society, DESAM maintained that it is because of the countless efforts of the forefathers and leaders who pioneered the language movement that Manipuri language is being studied at Master's level today.
Lastly DESAM called for collective efforts from all including those Manipuris staying outside the State to strive for the upliftment of Manipuri language.
Also Manipuri Language Day State Level Celebration Committee in a statement informed that to commemorate the day when Manipuri Language was included in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution, the 30th Manipuri Language Day will be celebrated at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen at Konung Mamang on August 20.
