AMSU seeks support

IMPHAL, Aug 10 : The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has sought physical and financial support from the masses to observe the 56th  Hunger Marchers Day successfully.
Hunger Marchers Day is observed every year on August  27.
Briefing media persons at its headquarters, AMSU president Haobijam Chalamba Meitei recalled that 4 persons were  martyred while many others were injured in the historic student uprising against the 'artificial famine' on August 27, 1965.
Saying that AMSU has been observing Hunger Marchers Day every year on August 27 since then, he added that AMSU is preparing to observe the day this year too by adhering to  the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for COVID-19 at Pishum Chingamacha.
He also expressed optimism that the people will extend support to AMSU in observing the day.
As a part of the observance, different competitions will also be conducted by AMSU branches at Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Kakching and Jiribam, he said and appealed to the people to  extend financial support for the competitions.
He also appealed to refrain from holding any festivities  on the day.
