JIRIBAM, Jul 2 : Closing in on Imphal, Indian Railways has successfully conducted a trial run connecting Vangaichungpao railway station in Tamenglong with Jiribam Railway station today.
The trial train was flagged off by officials from Silchar railway station who arrived on a Rajdhani Express train in Jiribam this morning in the presence of Jiribam locals.
The official team who arrived here for the trial run consisted of Nripen Bhattacharya, Senior Public Relations Officer, North East Frontier (NF) Railway; Abdul Hakim, CDO Silchar, NF Railway; DK Kakati, ADEN/BPG; S Das, ADEE/AGR; D Bhagawati, AXEN/CON, Jiribam and S Roy Choudhury, JE/W/CON, Jiribam.
The National flag was hoisted at the Jiribam Railway Station and the National song was played before the trial train was flagged off for Vangaichungpao railway station.
Commenting on the trial run, Nripen Bhattacharya said that the Vangaichungpao railway station will be linked to Silchar and to the rest of the country after Railway Minister Piyush inaugurates the rail line formally.
The line may be inaugurated within this month, he said.
The connection of the railway line will be giving a range of benefits to the people in the State, he said while adding that trains will soon reach Imphal as soon as construction of remaining tunnels are completed.
Today's run was executed to assess the condition of track connecting Jiribam and Vangaichungpao railway stations, he said.
It may be noted that the 110-km long Jiribam–Imphal railway line project is targeted to be completed by March 2022.
