EGM, AMWJU decry

IMPHAL, Jul 2 : The All Manipur Working Journalists' Union, (AMWJU) and Editors' Guild Manipur (EGM) have come out strongly against the public burning of copies of a newspaper as a protest against an article written by columnist and retired IAS officer RK Nimai today and said such an act was 'barbaric' in nature.
A joint meeting of AMWJU and EGM was held today and demanded appropriate legal actions against the culprits within seven days, said a joint statement issued by AMWJU and EGM. The statement further said that if the culprits were not punished within the next seven days, further line of actions will be decided after the seven days.
The media does not side with any party on any issue and opinions of various parties are published without any bias. Such acts of trying to intimidate and manipulate the media should not be repeated in future, added the statement.
AMWJU and EGM also submitted a written complaint to DGP, Manipur Police demanding immediate action against the culprits.
AMWJU and EGM also sought attention of the departments concerned to speed up the investigation and solve the cases relating to media houses including the bomb attack at Poknapham daily.
