Manipur sees highest spike on single day with 1171 positive; 15 deaths reportedTill date July accounts for 16.78 pc of total caseload

IMPHAL, Jul 17 : Continuing with the daily surge in the four figure mark for the fifth consecutive day, Manipur recorded 1171 new positive cases in the last 24 hours, to take the cumulative figure of infected persons to  83,859 including 3937 Central security personnel.
This is the highest spurt on a single day, ever since the first positive case was detected in the State on March 24, 2020.
The new 1171 positive cases were detected out of a total samples of 6942 tested in the last 24 hours to return a daily positivity rate of 16.9 percent.
The month of July has been particularly bad for Manipur, and just on its 17th day of the month it has already contributed 14,069 cases to the total caseload of  83,859.
This means that the current month has accounted for 16.78 percent of the total caseload.
The average positivity rate for the month of July stands at 14.9 percent which is way above the 5 percent mark recommended by the World Health Organisation to even entertain the idea of lifting restrictions.
Manipur is also among 12 States and Union Territories across the country where districts have reported over 10 percent positivity rate for the week ending July 15.
The States and UTs are Manipur, Kerala, Rajasthan, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, Assam, Maharashtra and Puducherry, reported PTI on July 16.  
Continuing with the trend of reporting daily deaths due to the virus in double digit, the State recorded 15 deaths in the last 24 hours, said the COVID-19 Common Control Room quoting the State Level COVID-19 Deaths Audit Committee.
The deceased belonged to Imphal West (6), Imphal East (1), Thoubal (1), Bishnupur (2), Kakching (1), Jiribam (1) and Churachandpur (3). The cumulative number of deaths now stands at 1365.
In the last 24 hours out of 6942 samples tested, 1171 returned positive results.
The positive persons were tested at RIMS (30), JNIMS (100), District Hospitals (815) and other testing centres (226).
The 1171 positive cases, all from the general population are from Imphal East (255), Imphal West (358), Thoubal (94), Bishnupur (141), Kakching (82), Ukhrul (4), Churachandpur (96), Chandel (42), Senapati (13), Tamenglong (53), Tengnoupal (5), Jiribam (4), Pherzawl (2), Kamjong (1) and Kangpokpi (21).
All necessary measures like containment and contact tracing have been taken up, said the COVID-19 Common Control Room.
On the other hand 742 persons were discharged in the last 24 hours from home isolation (302), RIMS (18), JNIMS (13), CCCs (123) and CHICs (286).
The cumulative number of recovered cases is 73,047 including 3839 Central security personnel to keep the recovery rate at 87.1 percent.
The number of active cases has now climbed to 10,812 including 93 Central security personnel.
The number of Covid vaccine dosage administered on July 16 is 27,149 to take the total number of vaccinated people to 10,10,355 including 1,09,401 who have received their second dose.
The number of patients admitted/adjusted against available bed strengths as on July 16 in different health facilities across the State is RIMS (225/224),  JNIMS (237/286), I Land Hospital (31/60), District Covid facilities (150/347), MSF (21/30), private Covid hospitals (230/330) and CCCs ( 1369/2946). The grand total of admitted patients is 2263 and the number of beds available is 1961.
