Sit-ins staged

IMPHAL, Jul 11 : As a part of the Nationwide protest, mid-day meal workers today staged sit-ins under the aegis of the All Manipur Mid-day Meal Workers' Union.
The mid-day meal workers during the protest demanded regularization of their service, monthly wage of Rs 24,000, pension and other benefits.
The All Manipur Mid-day Meal Workers' Union in a press release condemned police action foiling sit-ins which were underway peacefully at some sites.
The protest campaign held in line with the Nationwide protest called by Mid-day Meal Workers Federation of India was held at school premises across the State and other strategic locations, the union said.
The main demands raised during the protest are provision for Rs 24,000 monthly wage for 12 months in a year, pension and other benefits, regularisation of all mid-day meal workers, to not privatized mid-day meal scheme, to bring children of migrant workers under the purview of the scheme; provision for 10 kg rice to each workers and a financial assistance of Rs 7,500 during the pandemic time, vaccination of all mid-day meal workers on priority basis and to repeal four "anti labour codes'', the union said.
The union president, S Mainou also expressed gratitude to the mid-day meal workers for making the protest campaign a successful one and appealed to both the State and the Central Government to consider their demand and do the needful. He also expressed unhappiness over police action and prayed that such incidents are not repeated in the future, the release continued.
