Editors reaffirm

Members of the Editors’ Guild Manipur and Editors of various news firms have reaffirmed its earlier stance of not publishing any press handouts of any organization which has factional issues and have put dictates on the media in Manipur to either publish or not to publish press releases of one another.
The editors reaffirmed their stand during a meeting held yesterday at Manipur Press Club, said a statement issued by secretary general of Editors’ Guild Manipur.
All the editors were reminded of the decision taken in a joint meeting held earlier and to stick to the decision during the meeting, it said.
The editors present also urged all organisations to not to ask or dictate media houses to publish or not to publish any statement as it is in the domain of the editors to decide.
Any move to dictate terms to media houses will be considered as interference in the “freedom of expression” being enjoyed by the media, the statement continued.
