IMPHAL, Jun 4 : The All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) has take serious note of certain agents 'misappropriating' Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) rice at this time of unprecedented health crisis.
A press release issued by AMUCO said that such agents, though backed by influential persons, will face the wrath of the people sooner than later for their wrongdoings.
Saying that taking advantage of the Covid situation for personal gain is treacherous, AMUCO added, "It is time they (the agents) ponder the outcome of their misdeeds."
People are quite aware of certain individuals playing dirty politics with public rice by colluding with like-minded individuals, the organisation said and asked if political leaders and agents of Assembly Constituencies who are distri- buting lesser rice than their counterparts are not embarrassed about their wrongdoings.
AMUCO appealed to the local clubs, meira paibi lups and social activists not to remain silent when such a complaint of distributing lesser quantity of rice crop up in their localities, but stand for the deprived beneficiaries. It is of utmost importance for the agents to realise that people have every right to object when their rice share is cut unreasonably, AMUCO asserted.
AMUCO then urged Chief Minister N Biren Singh to look into the matter and reward befitting punishment to whoever found misappropriating public rice.
The organisation on the other hand, distributed edibles such as onion, potato, packaged salt to 100 select poverty-stricken families in Bishnupur district by collaborating with All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) and EKTA Parishad Manipur.
