Cop held with heroin

IMPHAL, Jun 23 : A combined team of Imphal East police with assistance from Youth Athletic Development Association (YADA) arrested two persons including a Constable of Manipur along with 158 grams of heroin from Kiyamgei Maning Leikai at around 3.30 pm, today.
The arrested persons were produced before the media persons at SP Conference hall Imphal East
Briefing media persons, SP Imphal East N Herojit stated that a combined team of Narcotic Cell Imphal East led by Inspector Kh Devkumar assisted by a team each from Iribung and Porompat Police Stations and members of YADA Khergao conducted frisking and checking of the passers by at Kyamgei  based on specific information about the presence of drug peddlers in the area.
Two persons coming on a two-wheeler moped from Manipur University Gate side toward Kiyamgei Maning Leikai were detained for verification, he said and added that on spot verification the detained persons identified themselves as Md Abdul (32) s/o Md Kyamuddin of Hiyangthang Tarahei, Constable of Manipur Police Department presently posted as driver of Narcotic cell Imphal West and Md Angou (27) s/o Md Amu of Hiyangthang Tarahei.
On checking the toolbox of the vehicle, a polythene carry bag containing heroin powder weighing around 158 grams was found, he said and added that both the detained persons were arrested and the heroin seized.
The arrested persons along with the seized heroin have been handed over to the Irilbung Police Station for taking up necessary legal action under ND&PS Act.
