IMPHAL, Jun 2 : The Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) has cautioned media houses against publishing the identity of the child of Kagujam Karnajit Singh, who was arrested in Delhi and brought back to Imphal today.
In a statement, the MCPCR said disclosing the identity of a child directly infringes on the rights of a child, particularly the general principles such as Section 3 (XI)-Principle of Right to Privacy and Confidentiality under Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. Further disclosure of a child’s identity in connection with a legal proceeding is punishable under Section 74 of Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
Advising the media and all concerned not to publish the identity of the minor child, the Commission also asked all who have directly or indirectly disclosed the child’s identity to delete their posts on social media platforms.
“It is requested to all concerned to abstain from mentioning details of a child in relation to any legal proceedings/incidents which may lead to disclosure of his/her identity to avoid any unnecessary inconvenience,” said the MCPCR.
