IMPHAL, May 31: After reporting record cases of more than 1000 fresh Covid infections for two consecutive days, Manipur recorded 869 new cases with the death of an 18 month old boy and 13 other casualties, said a report of COVID-19 Common Control Room today.
The 18-month-old boy from Imphal West is the youngest to die of Covid in the State till today.
So far, Covid has claimed the lives of three children including the 18-month-old boy. A 5-year-old boy from Bishnupur was the first to succumb to Covid among children on April 8. Next was a 7-year-old girl from Imphal West who died on May 25.
Meanwhile, the drop in the number of new cases however coincides with a dip in the number of tests conducted in the last 24 hours.
The 869 cases were detected while testing a total of 4,648 samples against 6,393 samples tested yesterday. Notably, Manipur recorded its highest ever single day spike of 1,032 cases yesterday.
869 testing positive out of 4,648 means 18.69 per cent of the total samples tested positive for Covid.
With the new cases, the number of Covid positive cases has reached 50,751.
The number of active cases is 8,791.
With the 14 deaths reported today, the death toll due to Covid has touched 807. (This is excluding the deaths of a 7-year-old girl from Imphal West on May 25 and a 40-year-old man from Ukhrul on May 26)
With as many as 546 recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, the number of recovered cases has reached 41,153. The recovery rate stands at 81.08 percent.
So far, 3,82,534 persons have been vaccinated against COVID-19.
Meanwhile, the 869 new cases include 3 personnel of the Central Armed Police Force and 866 people (420 males and 446 females) from the general population.
They tested positive for COVID-19 at private testing centres (337), JNIMS (238), District Hospitals (264) and RIMS (30).
The 866 from the general population hail from Imphal East (312), Imphal West (250), Churachandpur (98), Bishnupur (61), Thoubal (56), Senapati (25), Kakching (15), Kangpokpi (13), Tamenglong (12), Ukhrul (8), Chandel (8), Jiribam (4) and Kamjong (4).
On the other hand, four of the 14 victims (8 males and 6 females) including the baby boy were under the age of 45.
Imphal West reported seven deaths while Imphal East reported three. Kakching reported 2 casualties while Churachandpur and Bishnupur reported one case each.
The victims from Imphal West include the 18-month-old boy, two men aged 60 and 64 years and four women aged 53, 60, 65 and 66 years.
The victims from Imphal East include one 40-year-old woman and two men aged 56 and 72 years.
The victims from Kakching were a man and a woman, both 45.
The victims from Churachandpur and Bishnupur were men aged 60 and 94 years respectively.
As per Covid control room, the 546 who recovered in the last 24 hours include 415  persons who were under home isolation. The remaining have been discharged from Covid care centres opened at Lamboikhongnangkhong (26), BB (19), Thoubal (14), RD Wing (13), RIMS (13), Churachandpur (7), Kakching (6), NSU (5), LANVA (5), Bishnupur (4), Ukhrul (4), SHRI (3), Babina Speciality (3), Chandel (3), Senapati (2), Rajmed (2), CAPF (1) and Kangpokpi (1).
The cumulative number of Covid positive cases is 50,751 (general population-46,991 and Central security personnel-3,760).
The cumulative number of recovered cases is 41,153 (general population-37,447 and Central security personnel-3,706).
The number of active cases is 8,791 (general population-8,742 and Central security personnel-49).
In the last 24 hours, a total of 1,301 D-type oxygen cylinders and 550 B-type oxygen cylinders have been made available to different healthcare institutions in the State, said the Covid control room.
