Send genuine report to Central Government on Mt Koubru, Thangting hill: IHRA

KANGPOKPI , May 9: The International Human Rights Association, Manipur State urged the Government of Manipur to send a proper and genuine report on the status of Mt Koubru and Thangting hill to the Central Government.
Mark Thangmang Haokip, president IHRA Manipur, who is also the Coordinator of Myanmar stated that National Commission for Minorities (NCM), Government of India  through its intimation letter dated April 12, 2021 appealed to the State Government to cancel its plan to occupy the Koubru hill range in Sadar Hills District and Thangting Hill range in Loikhai, Churachandpur District.
The National Commission for Minorities, Government of India had also requested the State Government to send a detailed report on the matter within 21 days, he added.
Mark Thangmang Haokip appealed to all concerned civil society organizations, Church leaders, tribal leaders and student communities, village chiefs including non-civil society organizations in Manipur not to meddle in the matter regarding the National Commission for Minorities sent to the Government of Manipur concerning Mt Koubru and Thangting Hill.
He also urged the Government of Manipur to send a proper and genuine report on the status of Mt Koubru and Thangting Hill relevant to the rights of indigenous people, which are guaranteed by the UN through UNDRIP, 2007.
Mark Thangmang Haokip further warned that the Government of Manipur shall be directly responsible for if untoward incident arises concerning the matter in future.
