Heroin seized
IMPHAL, May 6 : A team of Churachandpur police seized 1.335 kgs of powder suspected to be heroin from one Tata Sumo while checking vehicles near Rengkai Bridge, Churachandpur this morning at around 7.30.
According to a statement issued by Churachandpur SP Amrita Sinha, the Tata Sumo was coming from Sugnu side.
Saying that one passenger showed nervousness and restlessness on while the vehicle was being checked, the SP added that the passenger disclosed about the contraband drugs concealed inside the white cooler machine of the vehicle on questioning.
The police identified the passenger as Thangkhomang Lhungdim (36), s/o Thangkhogin Lhungdim of Joupi village, Chakpikarong in Chandel district.
Thangkhomang Lhungdim also disclosed that the cooler was handed over to him by one Haopu, who promised him Rs 20,000 for transporting the heroin to Churachandpur.
Continuing that the vehicle and the passenger were taken to Churachandpur police station, the SP added that 100 soap cases containing heroin weighing over 1 kg were found hidden inside on disassembling the cooler.
The person was arrested and heroin seized observing all formalities, the SP said adding that a suo motu case has also been registered.
