Remand for two

IMPHAL, May 6 : Duty Magistrate Imphal West remanded two persons to 6 days police custody for allegedly uploading a post on Facebook, promoting hatred between two groups on religious ground.
The arrested persons have been identified as Laishram Bijoyraj @ Tompok @ Abung (23), s/o Shamungou of Haokha Maning Leikai and Okram Amarjit @ Thoi Meitei (35), s/o (L) Mani of Thongju Part-II Waikhong Khongman.
L Bijoyraj and O Amarjit were arrested by a team of Imphal Police Station on May 5 and 6 respectively and a suo moto case has been registered against them.
The IO of the case through APP submitted that a short video with a caption accusing a particular community for pulling down the Salai Taret flag hoisted atop Mount Koubru by devotees and burying it was uploaded on Facebook by L Bijoyraj on May 5 at around 7.10 am.
The IO further submitted that the statement promotes enmity between communities on the ground of religion, race, etc.
On interrogation, Bijoyraj admitted that he recorded the video on May 4 at around 9.30 am while descending from Mt Koubru and prepared the caption at his home before uploading it on Facebook on May 5 at around 7 am.
Okram Amarjit, on the other hand, was arrested today for sharing the post, which is now viral on social media Facebook page Manipur Update.
Stating that phones used by the accused in uploading the post have been seized by the police, the IO prayed for remanding the duo to police custody for interrogation.
The Duty Magistrate on perusal of the case record and hearing the submission of the IO remanded the accused to six days police custody.
