IMPHAL, May 29: After about 30 of them tested positive for COVID-19, drivers and helpers of petroleum and LPG tankers have decided to cease work for five days from Monday to Friday.
The IOCL (Indian Oil Corporation Limited) Malom Oil Depot and Sekmai Gas Bottling Plant have a total of 600 POL (Petroleum Oil and Lubricants) and LPG (Liquified Petroleum Gas) tanker drivers and helpers.
The decision to pause transport of fuels was taken during a joint meeting of the All Manipur Petroleum Products Drivers Association and All Manipur Bulk LPG Drivers Association today.
The cease work decision will however not affect the incoming loaded tankers and supply of fuel from Malom Depot, they said.
However, a member of the associations said they may also cease supply of fuel from the depot if the Government doesn’t act on its assurance. The Government, he said, had earlier agreed to declare the truckers as frontline warriors.
