IMPHAL, May 26 : The Leihou Khunai Kanba Luptil has expressed grief over the demise of one of the notable Meira Paibi leaders 'Ima' Akoijam Janaki Leimai on May 23 last.
The leader of Momnu Irik Khombi Lup and pioneer who led from the front in various social movements, was born on January 4, 1941 in Oinam Thingel, said LKKL in a condolence note.
Right from her prime days, Ima Janaki was an eminent Meira Paibi leader and played a pivotal role in the 'Nisha Bandh' movement.
She had also worked under Meira Paibi leader Ima Momon and was a founder member of Nupi Samaj.
Ima Janaki later became the founder general secretary of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur apart from working with different organisations in different capacities.
Acknowledging her contributions, she was honoured with 'The Times of India Social Impact Award', LKKL said.
Through her strong leadership in the movement against drug abuse, lives of many youths were saved, it said.
She later joined the fight against injustice and other social issues as a Meira Paibi leader, LKKL recalled and added that her demise has left an irreplaceable void.
