IMPHAL, May 17: Two former MLAs namely Laisom Lalit and Vivekraj Wangkhem have succumbed to COVID-19.
Vivekraj was elected from Kshetrigao AC in 2002 and went on to become a Minister. He also served as the National general secretary of National People’s Party (NPP).
After he was found infected by COVID-19, Vivekraj was undergoing treatment at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Covid Hospital, Delhi since May 14.
He suffered a cardiac arrest this morning and expired in the afternoon.
The 46 year old former MLA is survived by his wife and two children.
Laisom Lalit was in home isolation at his Keishamthong Laisom Leirak residence since May 15 after he was tested positive for COVID-19.
As his health condition grew critical, Lalit was rushed to Shija Hospital this morning but he succumbed to the virus at around 4 pm.
Laisom Lalit aged around 85 was elected from Keishamthong Assembly Constituency several times and served as a Minister in different capacities.
His younger brother, ex-MLA Laisom Ibomcha too expired sometime back.
