Covid test
IMPHAL, May 9: POL and LPG tanker drivers and their helpers have been subjected to COVID-19 test on arrival at Khatkhatti, Assam.
Notably, Khatkhatti is a popular parking place for most POL and LPG tankers coming from different States of the North East region. The maximum number of tankers parked at Khatkhatti belong to Manipur.
Since a few days back, drivers and helpers of TTs parked at Khatkhatti have been subjected to COVID-19 test, sources informed.
However, it is not yet clear whether the COVID-19 test was done by the Government of Assam or NGOs.
In case, any driver or helper is found positive, he is advised to go home and take rest, said the sources.
As a norm, POL and LPG tankers bound for Manipur are escorted by CRPF up to Imphal.
If any of the drivers and the helpers are found COVID-19 positive when tested at Khatkhatti, the State Government ought to take up all necessary measures as and when they reach Imphal.
Even though drivers and helpers are tested for COVID-19 at Khatkhatti, they are not given any certificate of being positive or negative, the sources added.
