DCCADCs urges
IMPHAL Apr 7 : The Demand Committee on Creation of Autonomous District Council (DCCADCs) has asked the All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) to endorse the demand for creation of ADCs to the newly created four hill districts of Manipur - Pherzawl, Kamjong, Noney and Tamenglong and the ADC elections of the ten districts to go simultaneously.
In a statement issued today, DCCADCs asserted that ATSUM should never represent only a sectarian interest of some tribal people, leaving aside the interest and aspiration of people living in the 4 newly created hill districts.
Saying that ATSUM pressing for early conduct of elections only to the existing 6 ADCs is unfortunate, the statement appealed to the student body to deal with issues confronting students' careers other than 'blatant' indulgence in electoral politics.
There are many issues that the ATSUM can seriously work on and protect the interest and rights of the tribal people in Manipur regarding job reservation, transfer and posting, preservation of indigenous culture etc, it stated.
The demand committee further appealed to ATSUM and organisations concerned to work for all tribal general interests and aspiration to uplift the 'deprived' hill districts of Manipur.
DCCADCs, on the other hand, condemned the Naga People's Front (NPF), Manipur State Unit for demanding to hold ADCs elections only for the 6 existing ADCs at the earliest. The parochial view and 'one sided' political adventure adopted by the NPF will lead to shrinking of the party support base in Manipur, it maintained, reiterating that the demand committee will not bow down to the pressure of any organisation and is ready to go at any length to fulfil the 'legitimate' demand of the people of 4 new hill districts.
DCCADCs then appealed to all concerned to initiate official procedures to create ADCs of the 4 new hill districts so that the 10 hill districts of Manipur go to ADCs elections simultaneously.
