Myanmar crisis : CPI seeks Govt action

IMPHAL, Apr 2 : The Communist Party of India, Manipur  State Council (CPI-MSC) has urged the State Government to give thoughts to the military crackdown on the democratic protesters at the neighbouring country forcing many Myanmar Nationals to seek shelter in the State.
In a statement, the Left party reminded that over 500 protesters have been killed by the junta in Myanmar since the coup on February 1 and this is forcing many people of the neighbouring country to places where safety is ensured.
Pointing out that a major portion of the 395 km long border of the State with Myanmar is porous, except for some strategic locations such as Moreh, the CPI expressed desire for the State Government to do what is needed sincerely at these crucial hours.
CPI also asserted that the State Government is not taking the issue seriously.
The Indian Government condemning the Myanmar military for using brute force against the democratic protesters recently after remaining mum for months is laudable, however, there is still no sign of chalking out strategies to tackle the impact on North East States such as Mizoram, Arunachal, Nagaland, Assam and Manipur, it maintained.
Saying that CPI will support whatever temporary measures taken up by the Union or the State Government to provide shelter to genuine Myanmar refugees from a humanitarian point of view, the Left party, however, contended that providing shelter to people who are taking advantage of the current issue at Myanmar to cross the border will pose a grave threat to the inhabitants of Manipur.
CPI urged the State Government to initiate emergency works and do the needful at the earliest.
